Library Computers

The State Library has computers available for public use. Most computers provide full internet access, including searching the Library catalogues and finding articles and article references in the Library's collection of databases.

Please note: All computers must be used in accordance with the Library's Information & Communication Technology Security Policy.

Web & email

All networked computers in the Library are available for searching the internet and accessing web-based email. Bookings are not required.

(If you're not familiar with using computers to access the web or use email, why not join one of our training courses.)

Software and peripherals

A range of adaptive software for people with a disability is available on the two computers in the Assistive Technology Room off the Information Centre.

Word processing programs such as Microsoft Word are not available on Library computers. However, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint viewers are available on most of the Library's computers. These programs allow files in these formats to be viewed and printed (but not created or edited). Notepad is also available on most computers, allowing basic word processing.

Other software programs are not available and cannot be installed. Library users' own material such as CD-ROMs cannot be used on Library equipment.

Saving and printing

The Library offers facilities for saving computer files to 3 1/2 inch floppy disks and memory sticks. CD burning and other methods of file-writing are not available.

Printing facilities are available at print workstations in the reading rooms. Instructions are available at the print workstations or ask at an Information Desk.
