Australian Standards

The State Library of Victoria has a comprehensive collection of both current and historical Australian Standards. While standards and codes of practice are not law, many have the force of law and some are in fact enforced by legislation requiring compliance with them.

Current Australian Standards are located at SF 620.1 AU7AS and need to be requested via the catalogue, quoting the specific standard number.

If the number of the standard is not known, the current catalogue of Standards Australia can be searched to verify the number before making a request.

Australian Accounting Standards

Accounting Standards are a complex area for the non-accountant as there is a range of publications or 'pronouncements' that are known as 'standards', 'guides', 'guidelines' or 'statements'.

Australian Accounting Standards are issued by the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB).

To find out what accounting standards are applicable, it is best to search the web site of the Australian Accounting Standards Board via http://www.aasb.com.au/

Australian Design Rules for Motor Vehicles and Trailers (ADRs)

The latest edition of the full-text BCA is now available in the State Library in electronic format.

Older editions of the BCA are held onsite, by the State Library in hard copy print format and can be found by searching in the Library’s catalogue.
