Electronic resources

The following items are a selection of electronic materials that are available for research and study when you visit the Library. Most of these items can be accessed at computer workstations throughout the Library. Staff at the Information Centre and Redmond Barry Reading Room information desks can help you locate these resources. 

APAIS  Australian Public Affairs  1978-

Subject coverage includes current affairs, law, politics and social sciences, indexed entries include an abstract and some articles are full text. This is also available in print back to 1945.

Academic Search Premier

Multi-disciplinary database, providing full text for nearly 4600 full text journals, including history, social sciences, language, psychology.  Provides access to Australian and overseas journal articles.

MasterFILE Premier

An international database providing full text for nearly 2000 general periodicals and indexes another 2650 publications covering a broad range of disciplines including general reference, business, education, health, general science, multicultural issues.

Social Sciences & Community Issues

Aggregates a number of Australian social science databases for ease of searching, including APAIS, Consumer Science, Multicultural and Australian family databases.

Sociology collection

Includes full text, peer reviewed journal articles on sociology and social behaviour related topics.

MLA International Bibliography

Indexes journal articles in language, folklore and literature.

PCI:  Periodicals Contents Index

Indexes a vast selection of humanities and social science journals held by the Library from the first issue, coverage starting in the 18th century.

Wellesley index to Victorian periodicals (1824-1900)

Indexes the contents of 18th century journals, many of which are held by the library

Columbia Granger Poetry database

Searchable database of 50,000 poems.

Biography Resource Centre

Full text biographical articles from books, newspapers and journals.

British Humanities Index  (BHI Plus)

Indexes around 300 international humanities journals and newspapers published in the United Kingdom, covering every branch of the humanities. Subjects covered include: architecture, archaeology, art, antiques, current affairs, education, economics, environment, ethics, film, genealogy, history, linguistics, literature, music, painting, philosophy, poetry, political science, religion, theatre, women's studies.  The State Library of Victoria holds many of the titles indexed.

History & Heritage

An aggregate of Australian history, biography and heritage databases, indexing Australian journals.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online

Full text access to the encyclopedia.
