Australasian Association of Genealogists and Record Agents (AAGRA)

Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS)

AIATSIS maintains a research program, library and archives and its Family History Unit can assist anyone of Indigenous heritage with their genealogical research.

Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies (AIGS)

The AIGS' website provides information about the society's membership, library, research services, bookshop, events, local meetings and special interest groups.

Australian Medical Pioneers Index (AMPI)

A database of over 3000 pioneer doctors, from the 1700s through to 1875. AMPI provides access to information obtained from sources such as medical registers, shipping records, newspapers, pictorial archives, and early medical publications.

Australian War Memorial (AWM)

The AWM website includes a range of online databases and other sources of interest to the family historian including unit histories as well as nominal, honour and commemorative rolls.

Convicts to Australia

This excellent website, produced by the Perth Dead Persons’ Society, is a great starting point for convict research and includes a comprehensive Research Guide. 

Cyndi’s List

Cyndi’s list is a very comprehensive genealogical research portal that indexes over 200,000 genealogical resources on the World Wide Web.

Department of Human Services Adoption Information Services (Victoria)

Adoption Information Services assists registered adults who were adopted in Victoria and entitled to receive information about their origins, including the names of their birth parents.

FamilySearch

FamilySearch provides access to several important databases, including the International Genealogical Index, to search for ancestors and a large range of other genealogical resources.

First Families 2001

A searchable archived database of the earliest members of a family known to have lived in Australia. First Families 2001 was designed to draw together stories of Australian families to celebrate the Centenary of Federation in 2001. The database was closed for entries at the end of 2001.

Koorie Heritage Trust

The Koorie Family History unit provides a family history service to members of the Stolen Generations, as well as advice and support for people searching for their Koorie heritage.

Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Online Shop

The registry's online shop enables fee-based searching of historical birth, death and marriage indexes for Victoria and Australia. It also allows downloading images of historical certificates.

National Archives UK (formerly Public Record Office)

The National Archives’ website provides a range of catalogues, leaflets and links to websites for genealogical resources in their custody, including the 1901 Census Online.

National Archives of Australia (NAA)

The NAA’s website provides a guide to the largely 20th century records of interest to family historians, including immigration records and those relating to indigenous people and defence force personnel.

National Archives of Ireland

The National Archives of Ireland holds many records which are relevant to Irish genealogy including land records such as Griffith’s Valuation as well as will and testament records.

Public Record Office Victoria (PROV)

This PROV’s website explains how to access the public records of Victoria includes subject specific Research Guides and the database Immigration Index to Victoria 1852-1899.

Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria

This is the oldest and largest free online community for genealogists. The site contains extensive interactive guides & numerous research tools for tracing family histories.

Scotland’s people

ScotlandsPeople is the official website for parish register, civil registration and census records for Scotland. This fee-based service provides access to nearly 37 million names.

Society of Australian Genealogists

The SAG is based in Sydney, Australia its website provides information about the society's membership, research services and bookshop and groups as well as the Library catalogue.

State Records NSW

State Records is the custodian of the New South Wales Government's archives. Its website includes many online indexes and topic based guides useful for genealogical research.

United Kingdom Birth, Marriages and Deaths

UKBMD is a convenient starting point for accessing websites that list births, marriages and deaths across the United Kingdom and Ireland using the local and national register office records.
