Electronic resources

The following items are a selection of electronic materials that are available for research and study when you visit the Library. Most of these items can be accessed at computer workstations throughout the Library. Staff at the La Trobe Reading Room information desk can help you locate these resources. 

Australian Literature Gateway (AUSTLIT)

AustLit indexes Australian literature published in both print and online versions and dating from as far back as 1788. It also provides full texts of some critical reviews and articles. Searches can be made on authors, texts and on works about authors. It also includes links to web sites.

Informit Databases by RMIT Publishing

A series of databases on Australian History:       

  • Auschron - significant subject coverage of Australian historical events, in any subject area, primarily from 1993 to the present. Source documents are major newspapers and news journals.
  • Australian Heritage Bibliography – indexes both published and unpublished sources on Australia’s natural and cultural environment.
  • Mihilist – indexes articles in published journals on pre-1980 Australian military history and related topics.
  • Australian Historic Records Register – a list of paper-based records held in private hands including diaries, photographs, posters, catalogues, registers.
  • APAIS – an index to published articles on the social sciences and humanities.
  • Australian Chronicles – is an index to sources of Australian biography. Entries cover all periods of Australian history and sources, and  include key biographical resources, topical local histories and published family histories.
  • Indigenous Studies Bibliography (AIASTIS) – indexes published and unpublished material relating to Indigenous Studies. The staff at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Library have compiled it. 

Ozlife

Ozlife indexes articles on prominent Australians which are taken from the major national and state newspapers. Entries can be searched by occupation, article type (eg Obituary) or name. They currently number around 25,000.
