Electronic resources

The following items are a selection of electronic materials that are available for research and study when you visit the Library. Most of these items can be accessed at computer workstations throughout the Library. Staff at the Arts Reading Room information desk can help you locate these resources.

Art Abstracts (Wilson)

Indexes art journals from around the world, primarily English language publications but includes French, German, Italian and Japanese sources as well. Useful for finding reproductions of works of art. Index coverage from 1984, abstract coverage from 1994.

NATSIVAD

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Visual Artists Database. Index with full text.

New Grove Dictionary of Music online

Reference resource for music and musicians. Comprises the full text of Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2001), Dictionary of Opera (1992) and Dictionary of Jazz (2002). 

Music Index Online (1979- )

Concerned with all aspects of classical and popular music, this index contains data from more than 670 international music periodicals. Information includes book reviews, record reviews, first performances and obituaries.

The Who's Who of Australian Rock (c1955)
The history of Australian rock music from mid 1950s to the present. Index with full text. 

Australian Feature Films (1896-1995)

A detailed database of 1158 Australian feature films. The range of information includes essays, bibliographies, film stills and movie excerpts. 

Film Index International

A directory of 90,000 films and 38,000 personalities, produced by the British Film Institute. Also offers data on the major film awards including the Oscars and Baftas, as well as the major European film festivals – Cannes, Berlin and Venice. Easy to browse with hotlinked cross-references.

Film, Video & Multimedia Finder

Guide to the availability of material for purchase, loan or rental in Australia and New Zealand. Covers Australian and overseas material, and includes a database of film distributors.
