Self-Service Copying: Using Library Equipment

If you are visiting the Library in person, you can use the Library's equipment to copy items in the Library's collection or print from the Library's computers.

Copy cards

Copying and printing must be paid for by a multi-purpose card which covers all Library services. The card can be used to pay for self-service copying and printing as well request Library items from storage or access online databases from home (if you live in Victoria).

There are two ways to get a card:

1. If you only want to use the card for copying and printing:

  1. Go to the Copy Centre in the Information Centre
  2. Purchase a card for $1.65 from the vending machine
  3. Add funds to the card for copying (using cash or EFTPOS). There is no limit to the number of times the card can be recharged with credit.
  4. Take the card to the Book Desk later if you want to become a registered Library user.

2. If you are, or wish to be, a registered Library user:

  1. Go to the Book Desk in the Information Centre
  2. Provide your name, relevant contact details and proof of identity (unless you are already a registered user)
  3. You will receive a new Library card at no cost
  4. You can add funds to the card later if you want to copy or print.

Keep your Library card in a safe place, as it stores your copying credits.

What can be copied?

Most Library material on open access or delivered from the stacks can be copied, with the exception of material deemed too fragile or vulnerable to copy. Full list of restricted items.

If you request an item from storage which is delivered with a bookmark advising that no photocopying is permitted without approval, please seek advice from the staff at the Information Desk who will assess the condition of the item. They will advise which type of copier is suitable (an overhead copier is available in the Copy Centre for fragile or large material) or whether the item should be sent to the prepaid photocopying service or photographic copying service.

You may also bring in your own material for photocopying at the Library.

Location of copiers

A range of copier/printer equipment is available throughout the Library:

  • copier/printers in all reading rooms, the Information Centre and the Genealogy Centre

These locations are clearly marked on the Library Floor Plan.

Users are obliged to copy materials within the limits imposed by copyright law. This information is posted near all photocopiers.
