Locating Items

The State Library can help you find the resources you need. We can also help you locate items that are in the collections of other libraries.

How can we help you locate items?

The Library can help you in the following ways, by providing:

  • search results for up to three books or journal titles per request
  • the location of journals and books in Australian libraries
  • the library call numbers for requested items to speed up the process of accessing the item
  • the address and telephone numbers of Australian libraries
  • assistance with clarifying library location symbols
  • the history of journal titles, verifying changes in name, and sequence numbering
  • knowledge about journal titles currently subscribed to by the British Library
  • information about current 'books in print' for Australian, UK and USA publications
  • contact addresses and phone numbers of Australian publishers or agents for overseas publishers
  • access to an inter-library loan of library material which we cannot supply.
