Donations

There are many ways you can donate money, cultural items or other significant material to the State Library of Victoria. Donations to the Library are organised through the State Library of Victoria Foundation.

Monetary donations

The Foundation accepts monetary donations of all sizes - every donation contributes usefully to the work of the Library!

Your Place in Our History donation program

You can link your family, organisation or trust with the Library in perpetuity by participating in the Your Place in Our History program. For a donation of $2500 you can sponsor a pane of glass in the Library's dome, for $5000 you can name a seat, and for $30,000 a table in the magnificently refurbished La Trobe Reading Room. All donations are acknowledged on plaques mounted in this room and are normally tax deductible.

For information about making a monetary donation or taking advantage of one of the Library's donation programs contact the Foundation on 03 8664 7517 or email jhalpin@slv.vic.gov.au

Cultural gifts program

If you donate an item such as a rare book, illustration or painting you may be eligible to receive a tax deduction under the Commonwealth Government’s Cultural Gifts Program. This program was established to encourage the donation of valuable items to cultural institutions so that they are preserved for future generations.

Before being accepted into the Library's collection, all items must first be assessed by an authorised member of staff using criteria outlined in the Donations Policy section of the Collection & Resources Development Policy. For more information about donating items to the Library email monoacq@slv.vic.gov.au
