International Standard Book Number
The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a 10- or 13-digit number that uniquely identifies books and book-like products published internationally. Each number identifies a unique edition of a publication, from one specific publisher, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors.

International Standard Serial Number
The Australian ISSN Agency was established in the National Library of Australia in 1973. The Agency has sole responsibility for ISSN allocation to serial titles published in Australia.
Details of all serial titles registered by the Agency are sent to the International Centre and this data is published in ISSN Online and ISSN Compact (for CD-ROM titles).
