The Australian Centre for Youth Literature at the State Library of Victoria offers professional development programs and consultancy services for teacher-librarians and public librarians with a concern for literacy. The Library's Education Programs unit also provides professional development opportunities for teacher-librarians, which focus on the Library's collections and services. Libraries in other countries may be particularly interested in how the Library has forged strong partnerships with Victorian academic libraries as well as other Australian State Libraries to promote and advance the delivery and use of library services.
Public libraries may be interested in the Open Road project and related services as well as Victoria's Virtual Library, which are managed by the Public Libraries Unit. Public libraries may also wish to learn how the State Library will partner over the next five years with the public library network to deliver enhanced library services to Victoria's communities.
The Libraries Building Communities report, released in March 2005, is the result of a two-year study which explored the important role libraries play in local communities. Available on this site in PDF format, this report can also be purchased from the online shop. The follow-up Library user census and survey project project resulted in the 2006 Libraries Building Communities publication Report 1 Statewide Analysis and Comparisons, also available as a PDF online.
The Strategic Asset Audit of Victorian Public Libraries, released in March 2007, is the first statewide audit of public library collections undertaken in Australia. Comments are being sought from a range of stakeholders and will be accepted until 4pm on Thursday 12 April 2007. The address for receiving comments is contained within the report.
