Professional Memberships

The Library is an institutional member of the following organisations.

Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)

ALIA is the professional organisation for the Australian library and information services sector. The State Library supports ALIA's activities which are aimed at encouraging the delivery of quality library and information services. More information is available on the ALIA website.

Victorian Association for Library Automation (VALA)

VALA promotes the exchange of information about the planning, analysis, implementation, operation and maintenance of telecommunications in library services and information management. A number of State Library staff are active members of VALA. More information is available on the VALA website.

International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA)

IFLA was established in 1927 to provide an independent, international voice for the library and information profession. The State Library of Victoria has a special interest in the following IFLA sectors - public libraries, library buildings and equipment, information technology, Asia and Oceania, management and marketing, and information literacy. More information is available on the IFLA website.
