Learning Services
The Learning Services division is responsible for the Library's learning programs. It aims to enrich the lives of Victorians by providing opportunities for active engagement in history, culture, and the world of books, knowledge and ideas.
Programs are built around four themes:
- Information literacy
Everything from traditional 'how to use the library' programs (catalogue, tools, collections, etc) to tours and advanced research skills.
- Engagement with books and writing
Reader development programs designed to increase people's enjoyment of reading; increase knowledge of Victorian books and writing; open up reading choices for people of all ages, especially young people; offer opportunities for people to share their reading experiences; and raise the status of reading as a creative activity.
- Cultural and historical context
Programs which focus on the history of Melbourne and Victoria - a unique mandated collecting area for the Library - and provide cultural and historical context to help inform a sense of identity and belonging.
- Learning for the future
Programs which look at future issues, technology and change, or prepare and equip people to flourish in a future which is complex, rapidly changing, rich in information and communications technology, demands high-order knowledge and understanding, and is increasingly global in its outlook and influences.
Programs can be delivered onsite, offsite/regionally and online - or in a mixture of the three formats.
