Gardenesque Continues to Grow!

22 February 2005

The popular exhibition Gardenesque: A Celebration of Australian Gardening at the State Library of Victoria has been extended until Sunday 26 June 2005. Celebrating the art of the gardener, the exhibition has been seen by thousands of visitors to the Library since its opening in October 2004.

The exhibition will be closed next Monday 28 February while much of the showcase material is replaced. Approximately a fifth of the exhibition’s content will be new, including superb rare botanical illustrations.

Gardenesque is an entertaining and occasionally whimsical look at gardening in Australia – from the beautiful to the bizarre, the classical to the quirky. Curator and garden historian Richard Aitken has dug out treasures from the State Library of Victoria’s collection of books, maps, plans and pictures to illustrate the evolution of gardening in Australia.

Gardenesque: A Celebration of Australian Gardening will reopen to the public from Tuesday 1 March until Sunday 26 June, 2005. The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 5pm. (Closed public holidays). Admission is free.

Richard Aitkin, the curator of the exhibition is available for interviews.
