Applications Open for Creative Fellowships!
4 February 2005
The State Library Creative Fellowships are once again on offer to writers, artists, musicians and researchers throughout Australia.
This is the third year for the Fellowships that encourage the scholarly, literary and creative use of the Library’s rich collections. The Victorian Government announced its support late in 2002 for the $600,000 Creative Fellowships Program and with the State Library, co-funds the Fellowships.
The Fellowships are for periods of up to one year, with stipends of $12,500 for three months, $25,000 for six months and $50,000 for twelve months. Research projects can be in any area of the Library’s collections, and are open to Australian residents who may be independent scholars, creative writers, artists, composers or developers of new media across a broad range of disciplines. The Fellowships are awarded annually by the State Library, on the advice of an independent committee of the Library Board of Victoria.
‘The Fellowships represent the State Library of Victoria’s strong commitment to original scholarship, writing and creative endeavour and help position the Library as a centre for ideas and public debate,’ said Anne-Marie Schwirtlich, Chief Executive Officer and State Librarian. ‘The chosen Fellows will be working in the Library using our unique collections, sharing their ideas with the public, and producing publications or work based on these collections.’
‘We are extremely grateful for the State Government’s generous support in helping us to set up the Creative Fellowships, and for the support of the AGL Shaw Foundation, as well as the John T. Reid Charitable Trusts,’ Ms Schwirtlich said.
Applications close Thursday, 31 March 2005. The Fellowship recipients will be announced during the Library’s Foundation Week, early in July. Applicants are encouraged to attend a general information evening to discuss proposals before they are submitted. This will be held on Monday, 28 February 2005 from 6pm to 8pm, in the State Library’s Village Roadshow Theatrette. Application forms and additional information are available on www.slv.vic.gov.au
