ANNOUNCEMENTS

PHOTO COMPETITION WINNERS
The winners of the Library's Wish You Were Here! photo competition have been announced. First prize winners in the Kids and Adults categories each won a digital camera worth AUD $400 RRP. Second-prize winners received a framed print of their entry. The judges, impressed with the quality of entries, also highly commended a range of photos.

PREMIER'S LITERARY AWARDS NOW OPEN
Entries for the 2008 Victorian Premier's Literary Awards are now being invited. These annual awards recognise the best writing across 14 diverse categories, and are worth a total of $225,000. A new award, the Prize for Best Music Theatre Script, is being offered this year. Applications close Friday 2 May 2008.

FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS CLOSE 28 MARCH
A reminder that applications for the Library's Creative Fellowships and the La Trobe Society Fellowship close on Friday 28 March at 5pm. If you're a scholar, writer, composer, artist or historian, the Fellowships offer a unique opportunity to support work on a project that utilises the Library's rich collection material.

COMING EVENTS

EXHIBITION ILLUMINATES MEDIEVAL MANUSCRIPTS
Our widely anticipated exhibition 'The Medieval Imagination: Illuminated manuscripts from Cambridge, Australia and New Zealand' opens at the Library on Friday 28 March. Book now for the related events taking place over the coming month, and register your interest now for May's major conference.

In March, attend a two-day series of short talks by international and local experts on 28 and 29 March. In April, choose from a lecture on English Books of Hours by Cambridge professor Nigel Morgan, three unique concerts of sacred and medieval music, a medieval faire and exhibition tours.

Are you from out of town? Accommodation packages for exhibition attendees are available through The Sebel Melbourne and Citigate Melbourne.

YOUR FAVOURITE SUMMER READS
Max Barry's 'Company', a satirical novel about corporate culture, and Barry Heard's Vietnam War memoir 'Well Done, Those Men' took out top honours in this year's summer reading program. Also in The Summer Read top five were authors Alice Pung, Ilsa Evans, Diana Georgeff and Kate Holden. Four lucky voters won the voter prizes of a weekend away, two Summer Read book sets and a book voucher.

Want to get the brain working? We have a multitude of events where you can hear new ideas, learn research skills and navigate the brave new media world. In the next month hear about a new online social network for kids, take a senior's movie-making workshop or learn how to create your own Facebook account. Or indulge your literary bent and learn to find book reviews and author biographies, discover how to mine our newspaper databases, or go further than Google by taking a class on search engines. SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN
The Library's famous school holiday activities are on once again during the March-April break. The fun covers Ned Kelly, storytelling, really old books and, of course, something medieval. Using our exhibition 'The Medieval Imagination' for inspiration, kids can write and star in their own medieval movie!
