CHRISTMAS OPENING HOURS
Are you planning to visit the Library during the Christmas holiday season? We will be open every day (including New Year's Day) except Christmas Day. Limited hours and services apply - check details before you come in.

MIRROR OF THE WORLD EXHIBITS CHANGEOVER
From 27 November to 1 December, 'Mirror of the World: books and ideas' will be closed to allow for a major changeover of display items. The regular Dome Galleries Tour will continue during this period but will not include this exhibition. The new display will include 200 new rare books.

MR TULK OPEN LATER ON FRIDAYS
The Library's licensed cafe Mr Tulk is now open until 9pm on Friday evenings, making it a perfect spot for an end of week celebration with friends. On Saturdays closing time is now 4pm. Drop in and sample the menu – the sunny terrace is a pleasant place to be any time of the day!

INTERACT

COMICS GO ONLINE AND INTERACTIVE
A range of online and interactive materials complements our latest exhibition 'Heroes & Villains: Australian comics and their creators'. They include a downloadable audio tour complete with transcripts, and an online version of the exhibition catalogue.

Online, interactive comic book covers will be launched soon. Kids can enter an online drawing competition, 'I Need a Hero!', from 4 December. And, in January a comics-themed blog will take place, with Australian comic-book creators taking part.

DIGITISED PORT PHILLIP PAPERS ACCESSIBLE
Interested in the early history of Victoria? A range of key manuscripts relating to the founding of Port Phillip has been fully digitised and can now be accessed via the Library's website. Items such as journals, a map, newspapers and deeds are pannable and zoomable, and have transcripts attached.

ANNUAL REPORT RELEASED
The Library's 2005-06 Annual Report is now available to read in PDF format on the Library website. A bound, printed copy can be consulted in the Library's Information Centre or ordered from our online shop.

LA TROBE STATUE GIFTED TO LIBRARY
A statue of Charles Joseph La Trobe, by eminent Melbourne sculptor Peter Corlett, has been gifted to the Library by the La Trobe Society. The work celebrates the National Trust's Year of La Trobe and honours one of Melbourne's - and the State Library's - founding fathers.

TEACHING FELLOWSHIPS AWARDED
The Library has announced the two recipients of its inaugural William Buckland Foundation Teaching Fellowship. They are Elizabeth King, Doncaster Secondary College, and Paul Beekman, University High School.

HEROES & VILLAINS EVENTS
It's superhero season here at the Library. Not only can you see the 'Heroes & Villains' exhibition and check out our online interactive materials, but you can also attend a multitude of free comic-themed events. Curator's talks, a Comics Lounge where you can relax and sample current comics, live superhero action performances on the Library forecourt, half-hour guided exhibition tours and much more is on offer!

TEXT APPEAL: LITERARY DATING
Looking for love this summer? Try Text Appeal - the Library's new take on the traditional dating formula. Each person is invited to bring a book they love, loathe or have recently read to act as a conversation starter to these monthly events. ONLINE SHOP SPOTLIGHT

BERT & NED IN LETTERS
'Bert & Ned: The Correspondence of Albert Tucker and Sidney Nolan', the latest addition to our Online Shop, explores the friendship of these two Australian art greats. It includes the text of selected correspondence, reproductions of photos and artworks, facsimiles of handwritten letters and postcards, and an introduction from art critic Patrick McCaughey. A publication from The Miegunyah Press, the State Library of Victoria and Heide Museum of Modern Art.
