COMING EVENTS

GENEALOGY EVENTS BONANZA
Amateur family history buffs and professional genealogists alike can indulge in a raft of activities over the next few months. National Family History Week kicks off proceedings from 31 July to 4 August. The Library is marking the occasion by holding a range of free genealogy-related events. Bookings are essential.

On 19 August the Library will have a stand at the Family and Local History Treasure Chest. This event, at Dallas Brooks Centre, is designed to help people trace their family history. Entry costs $10. On 30 September the third annual Family History Feast will provide free information sessions for family history researchers. The Library is one of the organisers.

TRAVELLING TREASURES ON TOUR
The Library’s Travelling Treasures program hits the road again in August, visiting schools and public libraries in Castlemaine, St Arnaud and Dimboola.

If you live in these areas you can see Library collection treasures such as Shakespeare's Fourth Folio, a Book of Hours and an artist's journal from Cook's Endeavour trip to the South Seas.

LATE-WINTER TALKS
The Library is hosting a multitude of brain-warming talks during August. Technology buffs can enjoy two talks in Experimedia, on design innovation and IT journalism. Those with a political bent can hear the curator of Naked Democracy talk about the exhibition. The annual Monash University Institute for Public History lecture focuses on medieval history, illustrated by superb manuscripts from the State Library's collection. Christian Bumbarra Thompson's artist talk and performance introduces the concepts behind his video work Ethno Aerobics.
