This monthly email publication will keep you informed about any changes to our services, will provide useful hints for finding information and accessing the collection, will let you know about special new features on the website, will keep you up-to-date on upcoming special events, and more.

LIMITED TRIAL – ACCESS TO INFORMATION DATABASES FROM HOME Yearly Victorian registered Library users can now access two databases from home for a limited trial period. The databases on offer are:
The Health and Wellness Resource Center This database holds approximately 400 health/medical journals and hundreds of pamphlets (more than 75 percent appear in full text) as well as health-related articles from 2200 general interest publications.
Biography Resource Center This database has more than 400,000 biographies on more than 325,000 people.

**************************************** OFFSITE COLLECTION UNAVAILABLE FROM SEPTEMBER
The State Library of Victoria is moving its offsite collection to a new purpose-built storage facility in Ballarat. While the collection is being prepared, there will be no access to the offsite collection from 3 September until Easter 2006. http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/about/news/latest/220705.html
**************************************** LISTEN TO AUTHOR, NEIL GAIMAN, TALK ABOUT HIS WORK Internationally published writer for adults and children, spoke to a packed audience at the State Library of Victoria on Monday 18 July. Gaiman, author of works including the iconic Sandman graphic novels, American Gods, Coraline and Wolves in the Walls, spoke about the transformation of his career from struggling London journalist to creating film scripts for Steven Speilberg. http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/programs/events/2005/gaiman.html
**************************************** PICTUREVICTORIA ONLINE Thousands of historical images are available on a new website, PictureVictoria. Launched in June, this site provides access to more than 8000 photographs, original maps, sketches and paintings relating to Victoria. http://www.pictures.libraries.vic.gov.au/
**************************************** EUREKA @ the Library The Library has many important items in its collection relating to the 1854 Eureka rebellion at Ballarat. Some of these items can be explored online, and others can be seen the Eureka revisited: the contest of memories exhibition which opened last week. To coincide with this exhibition the Library has also organised a series of Eureka-related talks, workshops and other events.
