When the Library first opened in February 1856, it had one reading room and one official employee. Today, the Library has nearly 300 staff who work in a wide range of occupations.
As well as employing information management and librarianship, our staff work in areas traditionally associated with libraries as well as in other areas such as accounting, events, human resources and information technology.
The Library is open seven days a week, excluding some public holidays.
