Public libraries

Public Libraries Victoria Network

The Library is committed to creating a stronger relationship with public libraries across the state, in order to deliver better services to Victorians.

The document Framework for collaborative action defines the basis of the relationship between Victoria's 43 public library services, the Library Board of Victoria and the State Library of Victoria.

This relationship is continually enhanced through collaborative activities such as provision of professional development opportunities for public librarians, and activities or events such as the Summer Read.

Dollars, sense and public libraries

This independent report produced for the State Library of Victoria and Public Libraries Victoria Network analyses the socio-economic value of our public libraries. You can download the key findings, summary report and supporting technical report from the bottom of this page.

The Summer Read

Each year the Library runs a summer reading program that celebrates Victoria as a centre for great writing, great books and great readers. The program takes place in public libraries across the state.

Focusing on books set in Victoria or by Victorian authors, the Summer Read invites you to share your favourite summer reads and attend events around the state.

The Independent Type

The independent type was an exhibition about Victoria's rich written culture, which was initially held at the State Library and toured Victorian public libraries.
