Documentary: Onions, bunions, corns and crabs – From the Magic Pudding to Lockie Leonard: Adapting Australian children's literature for stage and screen

Lyndal's Louis Lothian Children's Literature Fellowship project explored the translation of Australian children's literary classics to stage and screen over the last century. Her one-hour documentary program takes its working title, Onions, bunions, corns and crabs, from Albert’s first utterance in the The magic pudding.

Incorporating findings from research into children's literature carried out at State Library Victoria, the documentary will be supplemented by interviews with State Library historians and archivists, Australian authors, illustrators, screenwriters, producers, actors and animators. Her research will also look at archives from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the National Film and Sound Archive and the Australian Children's Television Foundation.

Lyndal Mebberson is a television writer and director who has produced children's and documentary content for the BBC, the ABC and Walt Disney Television. She is the co-owner of production company Super Duper Studio, and is currently developing a children's drama series, collaborating on a picture book and co-writing a feature film about working in children's television.
