2016: Dr Jordie Albiston

Poetry: Warlines – Letters home from the Great War

Jordie's project focused on letters and postcards written home by Victorian soldiers serving overseas during WWI.

The selected correspondence included messages posted home to family, friends, senders of goodwill parcels and other correspondents.

Approximately 70 poems, each representing the letter (or letters) of one soldier, offer a literary mosaic of the soldiers deployed abroad during wartime.

Dr Jordie Albiston received her doctorate in Literature from La Trobe University in 1996. She has published nine poetry collections, three of which are documentary, and her acclaimed works have received literary prizes. Jordie's work has been well represented in anthologies, and two of her books have been adapted for music-theatre.

Jordie has read her poetry at writers' festivals around Australia, and on radio and television both here and overseas. Her work is featured on a full-length ABC Radio National podcast.
