2016: Rosalind Atkins

Printmaking: Behind the big brick wall of Alphington Paper Mill there is another world

Rosalind's project explored the concept of relationship to place and the impact that developmental changes to her local environment of Alphington, Fairfield, the Yarra River and Darebin Creek will have on her art practice. This inner-Melbourne area is feeling the pressure of population growth due to intensive residential development.

The project contributes to the history of this riverside district, and documents how the area has changed over time.

During her Amor Residency at the Baldessin Press, Rosalind combined old analogue print technology, engravings and etchings with digital print technology.

Since completing her Master of Fine Art (research) in 2009, Rosalind Atkins has worked as a printmaker and engraver, and as a lecturer at Federation and Monash universities. Widely published, she has exhibited her works at solo exhibitions in local and regional galleries, and contributed to group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
